
Gymnastics Scores Season-High 193.625

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team posted its top score of the season thus far, with a 193.625 for second place in a quad meet at Reynolds Coliseum Friday night. No. 16 Denver won the meet narrowly with a score of 193.700, with North Carolina in third (193.375) and George Washington was fourth (192.100). NC State will compete at North Carolina this Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., and return home next Friday night by hosting Michigan State at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State started the meet with a nice rotation on vault, netting a team score of 48.550. Junior Rachel Katz led the way for NC State once again with a score of 9.825 for a sixth place finish. Senior Kylah Bachman had a 9.7 and was 11th. A trio of NC State gymnasts rounded out the scoring with a 9.675 each, junior Katie Ozburn and sophomores Leigha Hancock and Heather Zolton.
NC State improved on its team score with a 48.700 on bars, the second-highest score on bars this season. Zolton and junior Amanda Jones were tops for the Pack when each posted a 9.825 and tied for fourth. Freshman Elyse Adams was close behind with her 9.8 for sixth, and Katz scored a 9.75 and was ninth.
The Pack had to count a fall on floor, and notched a team score of 47.275. Hancock topped NC State with a 9.725 for third place, and Bachman had a 9.675 for fifth. Zolton scored a 9.55, and Jones added a 9.45.
NC State finished the meet on floor with its top performance of the season, a 49.100. Hancock went for a 9.925 and finished in a close second place, the second time she has scored over a 9.9 on floor this season. Bachman finished with a 9.875 and took third. Jones and freshman Ashley Shepard each posted a 9.775 and tied for ninth. Rounding out the scoring was Zolton with her 9.75.
NC State will make the quick turn around and compete again this Sunday at North Carolina. The Tar Heels will play host to both NC State and George Washington on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Wolfpack returns to home action next Friday night for its fourth straight home meet, hosting Michigan State at 7:00 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
