Adams Wins ACC Championship In Long Jump

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Dexter Adams won the ACC Championship in the long jump with a career best mark of 25-6.75, the fourth-longest in school history and missing the NCAA automatic qualifying mark by less than three inches, as NC State finished competition in the second day of the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House. John Crews earned All-ACC honors in the 5,000m with a time of 14:23.00 for second place and Julia Lucas ran a 16:46.01 for third place in the women's 5K, earning All-ACC honors and missing the NCAA provisional mark by just one second.
Ebony Foster qualified for the finals in three events, winning the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, taking fourth in the preliminaries of the 60m dash and seventh in the 200m prelims. She broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles, running a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 8.19 and ran a career best 7.44 in the 60m dash.
Joya Rodgers also qualified for the finals of the 60m dash, taking sixth place in the prelims with a 7.44. Jemissa Hess ran a 4:54.86 for second place in the mile prelims, qualifying for the finals and Angelina Blackmon finished second in the 800m prelims to qualify for the finals with a NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time of 2:08.94.
Lee Ann Wheatley placed fifth in the 5K with a time of 17:05.43, scoring for the Wolfpack. Tabitha Woodard also scored, clearing 12-2 for sixth place in the pole vault, a career best which ranks second in school history.
NC State scored in the men's distance medley relay, as Bryce Ruiz, Kevin Hutton, Stephen Furst and Tibor Vegh combined for a fourth place finish in 10:00.09. Chris Crawford and Mitchell Pope finished in the top 10 of the 35-pound weight throw with career best marks, as Crawford took seventh with toss of 59-10.5 and Pope placed ninth at 58-3.25.
Chris Kollar and Gavin Coombs qualified for the mile final, as Kollar finished third in the prelims with a 4:17.06 and Coombs ran a 4:17.69 for sixth. Hutton placed ninth in the 400m prelims with a career best time of 48.16 and just missing the cut for finals. Fredy Torres finished ninth in the 5K with a time of 14:46.43.
NC State is in fourth place out of 11 men's teams after six events and the Wolfpack women are in seventh place of 12 after six events. The ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude tomorrow.
