Gymnastics Gears up for 2007 Season

The NC State gymnastics team is just weeks away from the beginning of its 2007 season. With one of the hardest schedules in school history upcoming, the Wolfpack has been training hard in practice for the season. Assistant coach Todd Henry took the time to update GoPack.com about one of the Pack's recent practice meets.
Henry: NC State held the final practice meet of the pre-season on Friday. A few of our top kids were held out due to "playing it safe for the season." Amanda Jones, Heather Zolton and Rachel Katz have some injuries that prevented them from competing on several events for the Pack.
The team began on bars (which is where our team begins at Auburn to start the season). Well, what can I say...it could have gone better! We had two gymnast fall. Two freshmen, Taylor Seaman and Lauren Dueser both missed. The upside for bars is the three kids I mentioned above, all start on this event! Coach Stevenson was very pleased with how the rest of the kids competed.
The Wolfpack then moved onto vault, where we went 7 for 7! I am very happy to report that Ashley Shepard and Rachel Katz rocked their vaults. Both young ladies have struggled recently but came into the meet ready to get the job done. Great job! Kelsey Lee is working on a new pike front half and knocked one out! We'll hold onto this new trick until the first meet.
Floor was the next event for us. Like bars, we had two falls. I have to say, I was a bit surprised. Floor is strong and we stumbled here and there. Coach Stevenson, (assistant coach) Karen (Pleasants) and I were talking, and we think that final exams played into some of the mistakes. Even with the stumbles, I thought we still looked solid.
NC State concluded with beam. What a great day for beam! Last season was a struggle for us on this event. Karen and the beam team have been working extremely hard all year. The whole team looked very comfortable on this difficult event. Congrats!
I hope everyone has a super holiday.........until next time.
