NC State Falls to Miami, 3-0

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team lost to Miami, 3-0, on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. The Hurricanes out-hit the Pack .263 to .117 as the red and white committed 28 attack errors compared to the Canes 13. Jessica Williams led the Wolfpack offense with 13 kills, while Allison Davis hoisted 31 assists. The team blocked five total shots. With the loss, NC State slides to 2-27 (0-20 ACC), while Miami improves to 11-18 (8-12 ACC).
Seniors Melissa Rabe and Lyssa Ramirez were honored before the match as the two competed in their final home bout at Reynolds Coliseum. The departing Miami seniors were also acknowledged.
Eleven attack errors doomed NC State in game one, as Miami took the win, 30-23. The Pack drew first blood on an opening service ace by Kasey Rhyne and kept things close for the majority of the frame, but the Hurricanes took the lead for good on an Angelica Ellis kill, which put them up 16-15.
Miami hit .229 and committed five errors in the second game to sink NC State, 30-22. The Pack continued to struggle with its attacks, adding up 10 errors. The Canes capitalized on its serve opportunities, sending in four aces. Miami grabbed eight of the final 11 points to bring an end to the stanza.
Both teams put together its best statistical performances of the night in the third and final game, with Miami taking the game and match, 30-26. NC State committed a match-low seven errors, while putting up match-highs in kills (17) and hitting percentage (.233). The Hurricanes, however, remained on top with a .395 hitting percentage and 19 kills, while committing just four attack errors. NC State cut Miami’s lead to 26-24 late in play to force a timeout, but the Canes answered back by securing three of the next six points to wrap things up.
NC State will hit the road next weekend to end its season. The Pack will take on Maryland next Friday, Nov. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in College Park, Md., before facing Boston College on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m., in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
