Jackets Sting Thwarts Pack Attack, 3-0

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team lost to Georgia Tech, 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 10, at Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. Aiwane Iboaya led the Wolfpack offense with 12 kills, while Jessica Williams and Kelley Blakewood both offered seven. Allison Davis hoisted 30 assists and the team blocked four total shots. In defeat, NC State falls to 2-24 (0-17 ACC) on the season, while Georgia Tech moves to 16-10 (8-8 ACC).
Georgia Tech used a .281 hitting percentage in the first game to down NC State, 30-23. The Pack collected 14 kills, five from Williams, but committed nine errors to drop its hitting percentage to .111. With the red and white leading 7-9, the Yellow Jackets went on a six-point run to take the lead, 13-9, and never looked back.
Both teams traded blows to start the second frame, but Georgia Tech took a 5-3 lead on a Talisa Kellogg kill and remained in control for the length of play. A five-point Yellow Jacket spree moved the lead to 11-5 and eventually developed into a nine-point advantage. NC State battled back, however, and made things interesting down the stretch will multiple kills and tag-team blocks. Georgia Tech wouldn’t be deterred, taking the final three points and ending the game on a block by Erin Birmingham, 30-21.
NC State played a motivated third game, arguably its best of the season, leading briefly at 9-10 before the Yellow Jackets grabbed three-straight points to move ahead, 12-11. Trailing 27-22, the Pack grabbed four of five points to tighten the lead to 28-26, but Georgia Tech clinched the match on a Allie Niekamp kill, 30-27. The Pack hit a match-high .119 while committing a match-low eight errors in the final stanza.
NC State will return to the courts tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 11, hosting Clemson at 6 p.m. The match against the Tigers will be held at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Basketball Complex. Only the first 100 fans will be admitted into the Dail facility for the match.
