Allison is one of three seniors on this year's Wolfpack women's tennis team. Throughout the year, Allison, Lauren, and Agustina will be posting weekly blogs about what it is like to be a member of a Division I athletic team including personal insights on competition and experiences shared amongst the team. The blog's title, Sisterhood, has an important meaning to the team. Each player does not only consider themselves teammates but part of a sisterhood where they will learn to share four years of their lives with other student-athletes from all around the world who enjoy playing tennis and having the opportunity to be part of the Wolfpack.
In one sentence, I will define the newest drive behind our team - being “Wolf-ified.” This transformation lives by our motto: Keep our eye sight sharp, our speed quick, our voices howling, our alpha pair proud, our pack strong, and our territory protected.
Looking over the fall, we have just competed in our last team competition this past weekend in Columbia, South Carolina. Overall, it was a bittersweet weekend that started with a dancing celebration and finished with a strong singles victory at the end.
It was when we arrived at the hotel that the Halloween festivities began. A group of pirates and gypsies called our team to the dance floor and we jumped in, no holding back. Some of us danced and some of us enjoyed the food. But eventually after an hour, everyone was dancing and even the coaches got on their feet to finish off the circle, where all of us took turns showing our best moves in the center of the circle.
Soon after, we danced to our beds in preparation for the following three days of tennis play. The tournament began as a rainy Friday where we played doubles matches all day indoors. Saturday and Sunday was when the weather started to warm up and as that happened, our spirits were lifted and we finished the tournament with our first “wolf-ified” moment.
Neils Barringer was playing in the finals of her main draw match. She had split sets and then the rest of the team arrived from their various sites. The team cheered and didn’t move from sight as to reassure Neils that we were all there on the court with her. She battled to victory and it was at that point that the team went straight onto the court, arms raised, congratulating her for a great finish.
At that moment it was the feeling we had become completely “Wolf-ifeld” as our dreams merged, our goals merged, and our joy merged into a sea of smiles and hugs.
We are the Wolfpack! And we are ready to run with this momentum into the spring, letting only these positive repercussions come from what took all fall to achieve – our state of oneness – our state of being “WOLF-IFIED.”
