“It was great to get a road win, especially an ACC one,” said NC State head coach Laura Kerrigan. “It was clinical finishing against a strong team.”
Vera struck early in the match, netting the first goal of the game at the minute mark. After receiving a pass from freshman Chantalle Dugas, she booted the ball to the top of the box over Hokies goalie Mallory Soldner’s hands. Dugas had a chance to score herself with a bicycle kick near the net, but Soldner just barely reached the ball to prevent the goal. With one minute left in the half, Vera posted the game winning goal. Sophomore Tami Krzeszewski netted her third season assist after passing the ball to Vera who shot the ball across the box to the far corner of the net.
In the second half, Virginia Tech outshot the Pack, 8-3, but Connors only allowed one goal at the 79:45 minute mark. Puglisi took a shot off of a rebound from Erin Moore’s shot, which went to the corner of the box and put the Hokies’ on the board. The game finished with a score of 2-1.
