Women's Soccer Goes On the Road

The NC State women’s soccer team (6-4-2, 1-3 ACC) travels to Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday, Oct. 8, to take on Virginia Tech (5-5-2, 1-3-1 ACC) as the team continues ACC play. The Hokies lead the series 3-1, but the Wolfpack lead 1-0 in Blacksburg. Last season, the red and white came away with a 4-2 victory at Virginia Tech in the Pack’s second highest scoring game of the 2005 season.
The Wolfpack go on the road after falling to No. 9 Wake Forest, 1-0, on Thursday, Oct. 5. Even though the Demon Deacons outshot the Pack, 17-5, the red and white did not allow a goal until the 67th minute. Senior goalkeeper Megan Connors had nine saves in the match, bringing her season total to 51 saves, and 171 for her career. Connors is fourth in the ACC for saves, with an average of 4.33 saves per game. Junior Jessica O'Rourke is fourth in the ACC for points with 17, and is tied for third in points per game. O’Rourke leads the Pack with seven season goals, which has her tied for second in goals per game in the conference. Ten different players have netted assists for the Wolfpack, and freshman Katie Ruiz leads with four.

Julian Johnson has ten assists for the Hokies, making her first in the ACC and second nationally for her assists per game average of 0.91. The team has surpassed last season’s goal total of 18 with 20 after netting two goals against Miami. Goalie Mallory Soldner has 29 saves this season, averaging 2.42 saves per game. Laurie Beth Puglisi and Emily Jukich lead the Hokies with six season goals each.
