BOX SCORE
Coral Gables, Fla. – The NC State volleyball team fell to Miami, 3-1, on Friday, Oct. 6, in Coral Gables, Fla. The Pack took the Hurricanes by surprise in the first game, winning the point and taking an early lead. Miami, however, bounced back and took three-straight frames to claim the victory. With the loss, the red and white fall to 2-13 (0-6 ACC) on the season, while the Hurricanes improve to 6-9 (3-3 ACC).
NC State paced itself with a .222 hitting percentage, its third best in league play this season, for a win in the first game, 27-30. The Pack grabbed the first point of the game on a block error by the Cane’s Lauren Rinderknecht and never looked back, leading by as many as eight points. Down 15-23, Miami grabbed five quick points to shrink the Pack’s lead to 20-23. But a kill from Keshia Raibon spurred a three-point run by the Wolfpack, ending the Canes threat and bringing the red and white into the home stretch of a win in the first game of the evening.
The Pack’s joy, however, would be short lived, as Miami prevented NC State from scoring more than 19 points in any of the remaining three games. Capped by a .394 hitting performance in the third game, the Canes experience and depth proved to much for the Pack to handle in games two (30-18), three (30-19) and four (30-16).
Raibon and Chrissy Zirpolo combined for 21 kills to pace the NC State offense, while Janay Yancey posted a .600 hitting percentage. Kasey Rhyne offered 11 digs, while Allison Davis hoisted 32 assists. Starting all four games, Ashley Wallace contributed six kills to the attack, while Jessica Williams posted seven kills and digs, as well as a service ace.
NC State will do battle against Florida State in Tallahassee tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.
