Raleigh, N.C. - Freshman Alan Sanchez of the NC State men’s soccer team brought home two postseason honors from the ACC. Sanchez was named to both the All-ACC Second-Team as well as the ACC All-Freshmen Team. Sanchez is the first freshman at NC State to nab all-conference honors since Chris Welling did so in 1996.
Sanchez was also named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team, the fourth straight year the Pack has had a member on that squad. He follows Santiago Fusilier (2004), El Hadj Cisse (2005), Ronnie Bouemboue (2005) as NC State players to make the ACC All-Freshmen Team.
Sanchez leads the Wolfpack this season with eight goals and 17 points. His eight goals for a freshman currently rank him 10th among Pack rookies, as he has the most goals for a freshman since 1996. Sanchez has started all 15 games for the Pack in an attacking midfielder role, and has converted all four of his penalty kicks on the season.
NC State will battle Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Md. The game will be available on ACC Select by going to http://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=41857&SPID=3720&DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=660534.
The winner advances to take on top-seeded Duke in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
