Hokies Fight Past Wolfpack Volleyball, 3-0

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team fell to Virginia Tech, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 27 in Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. Jessica Williams led the Wolfpack offense with 11 kills, followed by Janay Yancey with seven. Allison Davis pushed up 27 assists, while the team blocked a total of five shots. The loss pushes the red and white to 2-19 (0-12 ACC) on the season, while the Hokies step to 14-9 (8-6 ACC).
The Wolfpack put together a solid effort in the first game, hitting .242 and drilling 15 kills. Williams dominated for NC State, sending in seven of her 11 kills for the evening. Trailing 23-20, head coach Charita J. Stubbs called a timeout for the Pack, but Virginia Tech responded by collecting four of the next six points before eventually ending the game, 30-26.
In the second stanza NC State’s hitting percentage dropped to .082 while the team picked up four more errors than in the first game. Raibon and Williams each posted three kills, but the Hokies only stumbled for three errors while cruising on a .308 hitting percentage. Five Hokies recorded more than one kill each as Virginia Tech won handily, 30-20.
In the third and final frame NC State suffered its worst performance of the evening, falling to a -.026 hitting percentage while suffering through seven errors. Virginia Tech answered with a .273 hitting effort. Melissa Rabe replaced Davis at the setter position, sparking a brief three point Pack rally, but the joy was short lived. With Virginia Tech holding a 17-16 advantage, the Hokies shut the door on the Wolfpack by seizing 13 of the final 14 points, including the last nine scores, and ending the contest on a Taylor Parrish kill, 30-17.
NC State will host the Virginia Cavaliers at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 28. The match will be held in Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus.
