Men's Soccer Downed at No. 3 Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team fell by a count of 1-0 at No. 3 Wake Forest Saturday night. After the two teams went into the half in a scoreless tie, but Wake Forest would score the lone goal of the contest in the 51st minute.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with each team taking seven shots. The Wolfpack had a pair of quality chances on the Wake goal in the first 45 minutes of action. Junior El Hadj Cisse received a pass from sophomore Jack Weedon, but his shot went just wide in the 18th minute. The Wolfpack also came close to a score in the 26th minute, when sophomore Ronnie Bouemboue played a short pass to freshman Jorge Mora just outside the Deacon’s penalty box, but Mora’s shot to the lower right corner was saved by Brian Edwards in goal.
Wake Forest would score the games lone goal in the 51st minute of action. Sam Cronin played the ball into the Pack’s penalty area, and found Wells Thompson. With his back to the goal, Thompson turned and notched the gamewinner at the 50:53 mark.
NC State had two near chances in the second half, but could not convert. Junior Ernesto Di Laudo received the ball on the left wing, and dribbled all the way into the Wake PK box, only to slot his shot wide to the right. Mora had perhaps the Pack’s best attempt of the game, when his shot hit off the crossbar in the 76th minute.
NC State’s Tom DeStefano had a strong day in the Pack’s net, as he notched nine saves on the day. The Deacons outshot the Pack 21-12.
NC State will play its final regular game of the season, this Wednesday night when NC State plays host to Gardner-Webb at 7:00 p.m. The contest will be played at SAS Soccer Park on Field #2.
