Eagles Fly Past Wolfpack, 3-1

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team fell to Boston College, 3-1, in a closely-contested battle on Friday, Oct. 20, in Raleigh, N.C. In front of a raucous home crowd, the Pack won the second frame, but lost the first, third and fourth games. The red and white finished with a .136 hitting percentage, just shy of the Eagles .185 clip. With the loss, NC State falls to 2-17 (0-10 ACC) on the season, while Boston College climbs 7-12 (5-5 ACC).
Three Pack players posted double digits in kills, as Jessica Williams led the trio with 16, while Keshia Raibon added 12 and Aiwane Iboaya put up 11. Allison Davis launched 39 assists, while the Pack assembled 15 total team blocks.
The Pack and Eagles traded blows throughout the majority of the first game, with the red and white tying the score at 22-22 on a combo block from Williams and Iboaya. BC grabbed the next two points to take the lead 24-22. The Wolfpack tied the score again at 24-24, but the Eagles resumed control and forced a Pack timeout at 27-25. NC State called another timeout with Boston College up 29-26, and scored two points to make things interesting. The Eagles then shut the door and ended play, 30-28.
Game two marked the return of Chrissy Zirpolo, who hadn’t played in the previous two contests, and she landed a kill on the first serve of play to make her presence known. NC State never trailed in the contest, leading by a solid majority for most of play. With the Pack up 22-28, the Eagles called a timeout to try and salvage the game, but they could only collect two more points as Iboaya nailed a kill to end the game, 24-30.
Boston College dominated the third game, winning 30-19. NC State was held to a match-low .056 hitting percentage while booting nine errors. BC took the first four points from the start of play and held the lead throughout the entire frame.
The Wolfpack put together its best statistical performance of the night in the fourth and final game, despite falling, 30-26. Although NC State put together a .317 hitting percentage, Boston College countered with a .436 effort. The red and white held a lead for a healthy portion of the game, but Boston College scored seven straight points and forced two timeouts to steal the lead at 23-22. Although the score became knotted on two more occasions, the Eagles refused to wilt, and wrapped up the final game.
NC State will host the Maryland Terrapins tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus.
