Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team was downed by No. 4 Duke 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Method Road. The Wolfpack’s (4-8-1, 1-5-1 ACC) El Hadj Cisse put NC State up first in the eighth minute, but the Blue Devils (10-2-1, 4-1-1 ACC) responded with four unanswered goals for the road victory.
NC State notched the first goal in just the eight minute of action. Senior Rami Ghanaeym started the play by finding freshman Jorge Mora on the left wing. Mora dribbled down the sideline, and played the ball in the middle of the field to junior El Hadj Cisse. Cisse took a dribble, and his shot glanced off a Duke defender for his fourth goal of the season at the 7:24 mark.
Duke would respond, and score three goals before the end of the half. The Blue Devils even the score in the 12th minute when Zach Pope played the ball into the Pack’s penalty box, and Chris Loftus used a back heel pass to score at the 11:53 mark.
Duke would then score two more goals in a span of just over one minute. Spencer Wadsworth knocked in a corner kick at the 35:21 mark, and Tim Jepson scored on a breakaway at the 36:45 mark to put Duke up 3-1 at the half.
Duke would add one more goal in the second, the only score of the half. Mike Grella used an assist from Joe Germanese and Spencer Wadsworth for his score at the 82:14 mark.
The Wolfpack will return to action this Wednesday afternoon, hosting Florida Atlantic at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road.
