Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team returns to action this weekend, with a trip to EAGL conference foe West Virginia Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Pack (4-0) was off last weekend, and will be competing for the third time this year, and the second away meet overall. The Mountaineers (1-3) are home for the first time, after opening the 2006 season with two road meets. The meet features two of the top squads from the EAGL conference, as NC State and West Virginia had won a combined seven conference titles in the leagues 10 years.
NC State is off to a 4-0 start to the season, winning a meet a Cal State Fullerton (188.575) to open the season and then downing Rutgers (191.000-187.000) two weekends ago in a home meet. The Pack currently ranks first in the conference on vault (48.487), second on bars (48.125) and third on floor (47.650).
NC State is looking for its first-ever win over West Virginia in Morgantown in eight trips as the two teams meet for the 27th time in series history and the ninth time in the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia is coming off a third-place finish (190.675 team score) last Saturday at No. 7 Penn State with No. 2 Michigan and Cornell. Michigan won the meet with a 194.825. The week prior, WVU scored a 188.125 to open the season at Auburn.
