NC State women's soccer will ride a four-match win streak into Friday's 7 p.m. against visiting Samford. The Wolfpack, now 4-0-0 on the year, will host the 3-0-1 Bulldogs at SAS Soccer Park on Sept. 9 and will look to defend a three-game win-streak on its home field. Senior Kim Selz, who has recorded two shutouts and contributed to a third, while collecting 12 saves in four games, will lead NC State. Offensively, the Wolfpack has two players with multiple goals, led by junior Carol Tognetti, who has three. Freshman Lindsay Vera has posted two goals and two assists. For Samford, Emily Morris has received the starting nod the last four games. She has allowed just two goals and posted 10 saves. Heather Birdell leads the Bulldogs in scoring with two goals and two assists. This will be the first meeting with Samford.
The Wolfpack has won its last three games at home and has two more chances to add to that total before heading back out on the road for the first time since its opening game at High Point back on Aug. 26. After hosting Samford on Friday, NC State will welcome a west coast foe in Pac-10 member Oregon on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. The Pack has allowed just one goal in four games and has posted three shutouts, while combing for nine goals. Along with Tognetti and Vera, four other Wolfpack players have recorded goals. Senior Lydia McBath and freshmen Tami Krzeszewski, Mallory Schmidt and Ashleah Dingle have each scored once. Sophomore Jessica O'Rourke has posted a team-best three assists, while junior Megan Buescher has helped on two goals.
Samford has won its last two games by defeating Marshall 2-0 and Memphis 2-1. The Bulldogs finished with a tie at Mississippi State, 1-1 and also knocked off Wofford in the season opener, 3-0. Samford's Heather Birdsell has a team-best two goals and two assists. The sophomore midfielder has placed six of her nine shot attempts on goal. Sophomore Rebecca Bohler has a team-high three assists. Senior goalkeeper Emily Morris has been in net at the start and has earned a 2-0-1 record while posting 10 saves and allowing two goals. The Bulldogs are coming off of back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference titles under the direction of fourth year head coach Todd Yelton. Yelton owns a record of 38-18-8 at Samford and is 78-50-12 in his eighth season overall.
