RALEIGH -- The security guard at Gate 6 was the first to suggest that members of the NC State softball team might want to approach the guy in the white T-shirt and shorts.
"Put a bucket in front of that guy," the guard told Jen Chamberlain. "That's Michael Vick."
So Chamberlain, one of more than 60 NC State student-athletes who collected donations for hurricane relief prior to Sunday night's home opener at Carter-Finley Stadium against Virginia Tech, walked up to the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback and asked if he would like to help.

He dropped part of the wad in the white bucket and kept walking.
"It made this big thump sound when it hit the bucket," said Chamberlain, a junior thirdbaseman. "I was curious, so I counted itVick's donation of $750 in cash was just a portion of the $45,413.70 collected by the Wolfpack athletes from the fans in attendance. All the money has been sent to the American Red Cross to help Gulf Coast residents who have been affected by the disaster caused last week by Hurricane Katrina.
"So many people were totally helpful for what we were doing," Chamberlain said. "For me, and a lot of the other athletes, we wanted to be able to do something. It feels good to be able to help."
