Wolfpack Closes out Summitt Hospitality with Match Versus Delaware

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's soccer, now 3-0 on the year, will look to pick up its fourth-straight win and fourth-straight shutout when it hosts Delaware at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The Wolfpack is in its final day of hosting the Summitt Hospitality Invitational. Elon and Liberty will kick off the day with a noon match. NC State is fresh off a 1-0 overtime victory against Liberty on Friday night. Elon and Delaware tied 1-1 after two overtime periods on Friday.
The Wolfpack has tallied three shutouts in three games and recorded a 7-0 goal count in that time. Additionally, the Pack is riding a four-match win streak, accounting for the 3-1 win at William & Mary in exhibition play.
NC State's last two shutouts were directed by senior goalkeeper Kim Selz as she posted seven saves and allowed zero goals. Junior Carol Tognetti and freshman Lindsay Vera each have two goals and one assist on the year and each has netted a "Golden Goal" with Vera doing it against College of Charleston and Tognetti versus Liberty.
Defensively, NC State has held its opponents to just eight shots on goal in only 14 attempts. Offensively, the Pack has posted 26 of its 61 attempts on frame. NC State has started the last three seasons without a loss after three matches.
The Wolfpack won both of its matches in last year's invitational, defeating Fairfield, 7-0 and Youngstown State, 5-0.
NC State is 1-0-0 all-time versus the Blue Hens and defeated the squad 3-1 in a tournament at George Mason on Sept. 12, 2003. Delaware opened the season for the third straight year with a shutout of Saint Joseph's, defeating the Hawks 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Shover has given up one goal in 245 minutes of action and notched another shutout, bringing her career total to 15. Freshman forward Caitlyn Germain has led the Hens in shots all three games with five in the first two and seven against Elon. Head coach Scott Grzenda is looking for two wins to reach 150 for his career.
NC State freshman Kasie Shover, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, will meet her sister, Lindsey Shover, the Hens' starting netminder.
