Raleigh, N.C. - Senior Aaron King of the NC State men's soccer team has been named ACC Player of the Week in helping the Pack with wins over No. 3 Maryland and Elon this past week. King helped pushed the Pack's record to 5-3-1, 1-1-1 ACC on the year, and a more impressive record of 2-1-1 against top-10 opponents.
King registered the game-winning goal in the second minute of action to lead NC State to a 1-0 victory over the Terrapins for the Wolfpack's first conference win of the season. The senior forward took a pass from El Hadj Cisse in the early going, dribbled through the Maryland defense and deposited the ball into the back. Against Elon, the Denver, Colo., native tallied a goal and an assist in leading the Wolfpack to a 3-1 win over the Phoenix. After a scoreless first half, King got NC State on the board first with a goal in the 48th minute. He would later add an assist on Bryant Salter's second goal of the game.
King has now scored one goal in eight of the Pack's first nine games this season, the only game he failed to score was in a 2-0 loss at No. 4 Virginia. King leads the Pack with his eight goals and 18 points on the season, and has moved up to No. 8 in career goals (37) and No. 9 in career points (88) in the NC State record books.
King was also named to the College Soccer News' Team of the Week for his performance this past week, his first appearance of the season on the list. Fellow senior Bryant Salter was named earlier this season after his MVP performance in the Duke/adidas Tournament.
NC State will be looking for its third striaght win this Wednesday night, when the Pack steps out of ACC conference action and plays host to Charlotte at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The game is set for 7:00 p.m.
