RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's soccer, 4-3 on the season, is slated to face the 2-1-1 Quakers of Penn at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. She has tallied 18 saves and allowed just two goals, while recording two shutouts. Sunday's match marks the second of four NC State is slated to play in over the next two weeks. This is the first meeting with Penn.
NC State's match at Penn marks the end of non-conference play in the 2005 schedule. The Wolfpack opens Atlantic Coast Conference action on the road at Miami on Thursday, Sept. 22, and follows with a match at Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 25.
The Wolfpack will look to put behind the three recent losses that ended a four-game winning streak this last week. NC State was scoreless in the last three games, quite the contrary to its previous 9-to-1 goal differential. Senior goalkeeper Kim Selz has started six matches and in that time she has posted two shutouts, assisted on a third, while recording 18 saves and allowing just two goals in nearly 484 minutes of action. Defensively NC State is solid as it has held the opposing attacks to an average of only 7.7 shots per game and has allowed five goals. Offensively, NC State has posted nine goals so far and averages 6.0 shots on goal per match. Junior Carol Tognetti has a team-high three goals and one assist for seven total points, while freshman Lindsay Vera is close behind with two goals and two assists for six points.
