UNIVERSITY, Miss. - The NC State volleyball team split its last two matches of the Magnolia Invitational Saturday at the University of Mississippi. The Wolfpack dropped a 3-0 decision to 17th-ranked Texas, but then bounced back to defeat tournament host Ole Miss 3-0. Senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins led NC State in both matches, following up a 11-kill outing against the Longhorns with a 13-kill, eight-block performance against the Rebels. NC State, which returns home 6-2 on the season, lost to Texas by scores of 30-20, 30-14, 30-26 and defeated Ole Miss by scores of 30-25, 30-28, 30-28.
Junior setter Melissa Rabe had 32 assists and a service ace against Texas and then 31 more assists against Ole Miss. Freshman defensive specialist Kelley Blakewood led the squad in both matches with 12 digs against Texas and eight versus Ole Miss. Senior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko contributed eight kills and seven blocks and sophomore right side hitter Ashley Wallace had six kills and seven blocks against the Rebels, while freshman outside hitter Aiwane Oboaya put away six kills and six blocks.
Eddins and Kosoko were both named the all-tournament team. The Pack recorded 29 blocks against Ole Miss.
NC State returns to action next weekend, but will not be travelling to New Orleans for the University of New Orleans Invitational, as originally scheduled. Hurricane Katrina not only canceled the tournament, but the entire UNO volleyball season. Stay tuned to www.GoPack.com to find out who and when the Wolfpack will reschedule next weekend.
