Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team put on an offensive show Saturday morning at the annual Red/White scrimmage. The White team topped the Red squad 4-1, with senior Aaron King and sophomore El Hadj Cisse each finding the back of the net twice. The Pack played two 25-minute halves at the Method Road Soccer Complex.
Junior Rami Ghanayem was the first to score on the day. Taking a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box, Ghanayem slid the ball around the defensive wall and into the lower corner of the net. The play started when junior Santiago Fusilier found freshman Alberto Ramos alone on the left wing, and as Ramos dribbled towards the goal he was tripped from behind. Ghanayem's goal gave the Red squad their lone score of the game.
The rest of the day belonged to the White team's offense. Cisse was the first to score after he shot in a bad clearance from the Red defense. King followed Cisse's goal up with his own, taking a pass from Cisse inside the box. Cisse would add his second goal of the contest right before halftime, as he made an impressive side volley off a cross from freshman Clint Pires.
Not only was the offense scoring goals, but both keepers made impressive saves in the first half. Returning first-team All-ACC keeper Jorge Gonzalez made three diving saves in the matter of four minutes to stop the Red team. Fellow senior Aaron Sanders also made two strong saves in the first half to stop anymore offense from the White squad.
King would net the only goal of the second half. After taking a pass from sophomore Ernesto Di Laudo, King's first shot was saved by Sanders, but King collected the rebound to score his second goal of the game.
NC State will return to Method Road this Tuesday and host King College in an exhibition game. The contest is set for 4:00 p.m.
