Ballerano Shoots 69 At U.S. Amateur

ROSWELL, Ga. - Lorraine Ballerano, a rising senior on the NC State women's golf team, shot a 69 in the first round of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Amateur, August 1 at the par 72 Settindown Creek course of Ansley Golf Club. Ballerano, who hails from Myrtle Beach, S.C., is tied for second place, one stroke behind leader In-Kyung Kim, the reigning U.S. Girls' Junior champion, going into the second and final round of stroke play.
After today's second round of stroke play, the field of 156 will be cut to the low 64 scorers, who will advance to match play. The 36-hole final will be played on Sunday.
Molly Birmingham, another rising senior for the Wolfpack playing in the tournament, is tied for 61st place with a first round 76 and incoming freshman Lauren Doughtie, carded a first round 77 and is tied for 79th place.
