Birmingham Advances To Round Of Eight At North-South

PINEHURST, N.C. - Molly Birmingham, a rising senior on the NC State women's golf team, picked up two more wins of the North and South Women's Amateur Championship last week at Pinehurst No. 2 to advance to the round of eight of the 64-person match play bracket.

Birmingham, the 31-seed in match play, upset No. 2 Alison Walshe 1 Up in the round of 32 Thursday morning and then defeated No. 18 Whitney Simons 7 & 5 in the round of 16 Thursday afternoon. She lost in the quaterfinals Friday morning to No. 23 Paige MacKenzie 6 & 4.

Fellow teammates Lorraine Ballerano and Nancy Mountcastle both lost in the second round Thursday morning.
