Abbie Sims Named to 2005 NFCA Southeastern All-Region

RALEIGH, N.C. - After recently being named to the 2005 All-ACC first team, NC State sophomore pitcher Abbie Sims has been tabbed a 2005 Southeastern All-Region selection. Sims, from Artesia, N.M., was selected to the second team as voted on by coaches in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) after posting a 20-7 record in helping the Wolfpack to a 41-25 mark in 2005. She posted a 7-1 mark against ACC opponents as NC State finished fourth in the ACC in only its second season of competition. Sims was strong in the batter's box as well, smacking nine doubles, six home runs, one triple and 32 RBIs, which all rank in the top-3 on the 2005 Wolfpack.
"What a great honor for Abbie to be recognized within the region," head coach Lisa Navas said. "I am very proud of what she has done so far, but more so for what she will accomplish in the next two years."
Sims is the team leader in nearly every pitching category, posting impressive numbers in ERA (1.27), wins (20), strikeouts (265), shutouts (9), saves (2) and opponents batting average (.143). Sims ranks among the ACC top-5 is each of those categories, and is currently ranked 42nd nationally in ERA and 12th in strikeouts per game at 10.50.
In her career, Sims has amassed an ERA of 1.60 and a record of 40-11 in 66 appearances. She has notched 16 shutouts and 513 strikeouts while opponents are hitting just .176 against her.
