Tampa Bay Selects Colmer in Third Round of NFL Draft

There was a time not too long ago when Chris Colmer wondered if he'd ever play football again. Now he's on his way to the National Football League after being selected in the third round of the Draft. Colmer, a 6-5, 310 pound offensive tackle from Port Jefferson, N.Y., became the 91st player chosen on the first day of the draft when he was picked by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At this time last year, Colmer was still feeling the affects of a rare viral condition that caused him to miss the entire 2003 season.
But after being granted a sixth year of eligibility, he was able to come back and put together a solid 2004 campaign to get himself back in the NFL picture.
After feeling numbness and discomfort in his neck and shoulder during fall camp in 2003, Colmer was diagnosed with Parsonage Turner Syndrome, a rare viral disorder that has no consistent pattern in the people it afflicts. Some have had it disappear within a matter of days, while others have been affected for the rest of their lives.
Fortunately, Colmer regained his strength enough to play football again. Overall, he was the fifth offensive tackle taken on Saturday.
