No. 37 Wolfpack Men's Tennis Hosts No. 3 Virginia

RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 37 NC State men's tennis will host its third and final ACC contest of the week when No. 3 Virginia travels to Raleigh for a 2 p.m. start on Friday, Mar. 25. The match will take place at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center with play being held on the Jacqueline and Curtis Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium. The Wolfpack (15-5, 2-3 ACC) is coming off of a tight 4-3 loss to ACC rival No. 53 North Carolina, while the Cavaliers (14-2, 2-0 ACC) defeated No. 50 Georgia Tech, 6-1. NC State's William Noblitt improved to 15-1 overall in singles and 4-1 in the ACC with his win at No. 6 singles against UNC's Jonathan Janda. Nick Cavaday's win at No. 2 singles over the Tar Heel's Brad Pomeroy was his 10th at No. 2 singles and he upped his overall record to 13-3 this spring.
Noblitt also leads the team in total victories in doubles and singles over the fall and spring seasons. His record this season stands at an impressive 40-12. Cavaday is fourth on the team with a 31-18 record for 2004-05, and Mason Schermerhorn is second on the team with a mark of 37-13.
Other likely starters in the lineup include Andre Iriarte, Will Shaw, Conor Taylor and Val Banada. Iriarte won his 11th singles match and holds an 11-4 mark in spring dual singles and is 22-8 in singles on the season.
Shaw is 10-7 in singles, while Taylor has won six matches, all at No. 1 singles in his senior season. Banada is 7-3 and has won 21 total matches this season.
UVa. has four ranked players in their singles lineup, and one doubles team ranked by the ITA. Doug Stewart is No. 8 nationally, while Somdev Devvarman is No. 15 as a freshman. Darrin Cohen holds down a current ranking of No. 48, and Rylan Rizza is No. 56.
The Wolfpack will head to Blacksburg, Va. for a meeting with ACC newcomer Virginia Tech on Sunday, Mar. 27 at 1 p.m. in the next action for Wolfpack men's tennis.
