Pope Qualifies In Shot Put At Charlotte 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The NC State outdoor track & field teams sent a small number of athletes to the Charlotte 49ers Classic Saturday. Mitchell Pope won the shot put with a NCAA Regional Championship qualifying mark of 56-5 3/4.
Pope also finished 10th in the discus throw with a heave of 134-8, while Chris Crawford hit 121-9. Crawford also placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 51-3.
Omar Wells led the Pack in both the 200m and the 400m, while Matt Minnick ran both the 100m and the 200m for State. LT Dickens competed in both the 200m and 400m. The Wolfpack posted a 42.90 in the 4x100m relay while the women ran a 48.66 in the 4x100 and a 4:06.51 in the 4x400m relay.
Courtney Patterson ran a 12.28 in the 100m to take sixth place after posting a 11.93 in the preliminaries. She also finished the 200m with a time of 25.12. Joya Rodgers also ran the 100m, while Cassandra Williams competed in both the 100m and 200m. Tajaron Lewis led three Wolfpack runners in the 400m, finishing ahead of Vanessa Blaylock and Ayisha Beavers.
Kelly Smoke was the runner-up in the discus throw with a mark of 145-10.5 and she placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 145-11. Brie Ward competed in the discus, hammer and the shot put as well.
