Outdoor Track & Field Opens Season At Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State track & field teams opened the outdoor season Friday at the UNC Tar Heel Opener. Georgia Davis won the 800m with a time of 2:21.62 and Sara Powell won the 1500m in 4:45.96 to lead the Wolfpack.
Payne Chapin was the runner-up in the 800m with a time of 2:28.42, while Joanna Rodgers placed fourth. Jessie Yester also competed in the 800m.
Mattie Bethea placed seventh in the 100m and 9th in the 200m, while fellow jumper Laila Thomas placed eighth in the 200m. Thomas was also the runner-up in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17:43. Tabitha Woodard took ninth in the 100m and Teresa Reed placed 10th. Charlotte Diguid also competed in the 100m.
NC State took the top four places in the 1500m, as Michelle Popple was the runner-up with a time of 4:53.28, Rodgers placed third with a 4:55.21, Yester took fourth and Powell won.
On the men's side, Dexter Adams placed fifth in the 100m and fellow jumper Michael Hill took sixth. Eric Hoverstad and James Garzoni competed in the 100m as well.
Antwan Graves placed sixth in the 200m with a time of 22.79, while Phillip Stafford led three Wolfpack runners in the 1500m with a 4:03.99 for third place. Lance Hall took seventh and Patrick Chessar placed ninth in the 1500m.
The Wolfpack returns to action tomorrow at the Charlotte Invitational.
