
Comeback Pack Finishes Sixth At Lady Gamecock Classic

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The NC State women's golf team improved 15 strokes from its second round score to finish the Lady Gamecock Classic in sixth place out of 12 teams at the par 72, 5,996-yard University Club. Lorraine Ballerano led the Wolfpack, shooting three strokes over par in the final round to finish tied for ninth place at 20-over.
Tied for eighth place going into the final round of 18 holes Sunday morning, NC State shot 23-over, jumping to sixth place. Ballerano improved six strokes in the final round and Ashlee Dean, who also fired a three-over in the final round, shaved eight strokes off her second round score. Dean tied for 14th place at 22-over.
Nancy Mountcastle tied for 33rd place at 29-over. Stephanie Derrey improved six strokes in the third round to beat out teammate Molly Birmingham by two strokes.
New Mexico won the tournament at 66-over and Jenny Suh from Furman was the individual medalist at eight-over. The Wolfpack returns to action tomorrow, when the JV squad travels to Badin Lake, N.C., for the Lady Falcon Spring Invitational at the Old North State Golf Club at Uwaharrie Point March 14-15. The varsity five will head to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic at the University Club March 18-19.
