Raleigh, N.C. - Freshman Heather Zolton (New Port Richey, Fla.) of the North Carolina State gymnastics team has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week for her performance this past weekend at the Governor's Cup. Zolton's strong effort helped the Pack to a season high score, and a second place finish.
Zolton competed in three of the four events, and also exhibitioned on beam and could see action in the all-around in the upcoming weeks. Zolton's top score of the meet was a 9.875 on bars for a second place finish. That score is the Pack's highest of the season thus far, and Zolton narrowly missed her second straight bars title with that score. She also added scores of 9.675 on vault and 9.625 on floor.
NC State will return to home action this Friday night, when NC State hosts the annual Hearts Invitational at 7:00 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. NC State will take on George Washington, Iowa and William & Mary.
