RALEIGH, N.C. - Barbara Orlay led the NC State women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. Orlay, who is undefeated in both singles and doubles play through the Wolfpack's first seven dual matches, partnered with Elin Stahl Johansson to pick up an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles and then dispatched Marie Matrka 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
NC State swept Coastal Carolina in doubles play to take an early 1-0 lead and won five of six singles matches, all in straight sets, to convincingly win its first of two dual matches on the day. Julia Roach's win at No. 4 singles was the deciding match for the Wolfpack, which will take on Gardner-Webb this evening.
Roach teamed with Carmen Torres to easily defeat Coastal Carolina at No. 3 doubles 8-1. Torres also rolled in singles play, winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. Danielle Stadlemann and Agustina Archavaleta both made quick of their opponents as well as the duo blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, followed by straight set wins in singles play.
Virginie Dinh earned the only victory of the day for the Chanticleers, winning 7-6(4), 6-2 over Johansson at No. 2 singles. The Wolfpack played without Virginia Romero and Kristin Lam again, as Romero is sick and Lam is recovering from a knee injury.
