
Ballerano Leads Wolfpack To Eighth Place Finish

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - The NC State women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring, finishing eighth at in the 12 team field at the Papa John's Collegiate. Lorraine Ballerano led the Wolfpack on Don Shula's par 72, 6,190-yard Golf Course, carding a 10-over-par total score over the three-day event, tying for 13th individually.
Ballerano, a junior from Myrtle Beach, S.C., shot the team's best score of the tournament in the final round, carding a one-over-par 73 over the last 18 holes. Ashlee Dean tied for 28th with a 18-over total while Molly Birmingham came in 22-over.
Two NC State freshmen made their collegiate debuts at the Papa John's Collegiate. Lauren Harling had the team's second-best scores of the day in the first two rounds. Stephanie Derrey improved each round and came in five-over in the final round.
Miami, the host school, won the tournament by nearly 20 strokes, finishing 19-over. The Hurricanes' Josie Shinn shot five-under in the final round to win individually with a three-under total. NC State returns to action March 11-13, when the Wolfpack travels to Columbia, S.C., to compete in the Lady Gamecock Classic at the University Club.
