Adams Provisionally Qualifies in Long Jump

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Dexter Adams (Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump, leading the NC State indoor track & field teams Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
Adams won the long jump with a provisionally qualifying mark of 24-5 1/2, the second-best leap in the ACC this season.
Michael Hill was the runner-up in the high jump clearing a personal record, 6-8 3/4. He also took third in the triple jump with a mark of 49-5 and placed eighth in the long jump with a new personal record of 22-11.
Mitchell Pope smashed his personal record in the shot put, tossing 56-10 1/2 for seventh place, while Chris Crawford upped his personal record in the weight throw almost eight inches with a hurl of 54-9 1/4. Crawford also posted a top 20 finish in the shot put with a mark of 48-11 1/4.
Jimmie Sutton, III led three Wolfpack sprinters in the 55m, running a 6.55, as Matt Minnick finished in 6.56 and Kevin Davis in 6.57. Minnick ran a 23.29 in the 200m, just behind teammate Brian Clark who finished in 22.92, and ahead of LT Dickens who posted a 23.52.
The Wolfpack took advantage of the banked track in Rector Fieldhouse as all five NC State runners in the 400m posted season-best times. Kevin Davis finished 49.33 for 12th place, Antwan Graves 50.53, Omar Wells 50.74, LT Dickens 50.96 and Armand Quenum ran a 51.29.
Nick Rizzon ran the 800m in 2:01.19 and Phillip Staford posted a 4:24.91 in the mile. Antwan Graves clocked a 7.74 in the 55m hurdles, while Bobby Mack led five NC State distance runners in the 3,000m with a time of 8:31.47, good for 10th place. John Crews came in at 8:40.95, John Henderson at 8:44.93, Colin Cronin at 8:49.53 and Lance Hall ran a 8:57.05.
On the women's side, Julia Lucas led five NC State distance runners in the 3,000m with a third place finish. Lucas posted a time of 9:42.71, while Ginger Wheeler took fourth place with a time of 9:59.33. Erin Swain collected 11th place with 10:15.90, Abigail Nelkie ran a 10:16.93 for 13th place and Lee-Ann Wheatley came in 17th at 10:28.64.
All three Wolfpack runners in the 400m posted season-best times as Trellanie Green ran a 1:00.45, Tajaron Lewis 1:01.98 and Vanessa Blaylock was clocked at 1:03.73. Courtney Patterson and Joya Rodgers led the NC State sprinters, taking third and sixth respectively in the 55m. Patterson ran a 7.02 and Rodgers ran it in 7.09, while Adrianne Adams posted a 7.44, Green a 7.60 and Cassandra Williams ran a 7.63 in the 55m prelims. Patterson also finished 11th in the 200m with a time of 24.93, Williams ran a 25.97, Rodgers a 26.10 and Green was clocked at 26.36.
Magin Kebert led seven NC State milers, finishing fourth with a time of 5:01.77. Jennifer Boyd place fifth with a time of 5:02.39, Kelly Brown came in 12th at 5:09.79 and Michelle Poppple ran a 5:11.33 for 13th place. Joanna Rodgers posted a 5:19.03 in the mile, while Leslie Jimison ran a 5:28.55 and Jessie Yester clocked a 5:35.78.
Carla Babb ran a 2:32.69 in the 800m and Charlotte Diguid cleared 5-0 1/2 in the high jump. Tabitha Woodard cleared 11-2 in the pole vault, while Laila Thomas reached a personal record 15-10 1/4 in the long jump. Thomas also ran a 9.32 in the 55m hurdles. Whitney McGee placed ninth in the weight throw with a personal record 52-3.
Up next for NC State are the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 17-19 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
