RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Duke on Sunday. Senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins led the Wolfpack (7-17, 1-15 ACC) with 12 kills, but the Blue Devils (16-7, 10-5 ACC) held NC State to a .091 team attack percentage, sweeping the match 30-23, 30-25, 30-16.
"Our effort was better today, but we just didn't get set up on defense most of the time," said NC State head coach Mary Byrne. "We'll keep practicing that and continue to work hard. Our pursuit was good though, and we kept fighting on defense."
Duke jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and never let NC State closer than four the rest of the way as the Blue Devils rolled to the opening win. With game two tied 19-19, Duke went on a 6-1 run before a Wolfpack timeout. NC State closed within three at 23-26, but lost by five. The Blue Devils picked up steam in the third game, hitting .295, holding the Wolfpack to a -.022 team attack percentage and nearly doubling its score.
Adeola Kosoko led NC State with seven blocks, including three solo stuffs, to go with 10 kills and nine digs. Melissa Rabe provided 26 assists, nine digs, a block and three kills. Andrea Bentley led the team with 13 digs and Eddins also had seven digs, three blocks and a .233 attack percentage.
NC State returns to action next weekend when it hits the road to take on Georgia Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Friday in Atlanta before heading to Clemson, S.C. on Saturday to face Clemson at 4:30 p.m.
