`Inside the Chalk Box' features a guest columnist this week, sophomore Leigha Hancock. Last season, Hancock became only the second NC State gymnasts to be named the 2005 EAGL Rookie of the Year. She was also named to the All-EAGL second team for beam, and competed on vault, beam and floor in every meet as a freshman. The Wolfpack will have a practice meet this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Carmichael Gym, and it is open to the public.
Hancock: With the first full team intrasquad coming up on Tuesday, I am beginning to feel more excited and nervous. This meet indicates our season is only days away! I have mixed thoughts regarding our practices during pre-season. I think the team is working extremely hard but may not realize how close the season really is. Everyone is fighting to get through the semester and practicing with barley any sleep! I strongly believe however, that if we continue to work through these difficult times that we will be a better team in the end, both physically and mentally.
A big Congrats goes out to Elyse Adams, who I feel has been a tremendous surprise for the Wolfpack! We lost two great competitors on uneven bars through graduation and I could not think of anyone better to fill one of their spots. Once the season rolls around, I believe more of the freshman will step up. Dru Davis and Ashley Shepard are expected to compete on several events for NC State. Another person to watch out for is Katie Ozburn. She is such an enthusiastic and motivating person to work with. She has a great chance to compete on balance beam and vault!
Those are all of my thoughts for now, Todd will be back next time..........GO PACK!!
