Rabe, Eddins Named Academic All-District

Melissa Rabe and Stefani Eddins, members of the NC State volleyball team, were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 volleyball team on Nov. 10. Rabe, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., is the starting setter for the Wolfpack and garnered first-team honors, which automatically earns the Biochemistry major with a minor in Nutrition, a nomination for Academic All-America honors. Eddins, a senior Parks, Recreation and Tourism major from Irving, Texas, is a starting middle blocker for NC State and picked up third-team honors.
Rabe has started every match for the Wolfpack and leads the team in assists, assists per game, service aces and is third on the squad in digs. She ranks eighth in the ACC for aces per game and has posted double-doubles in assists and digs against Virginia and Duke this season. A Dean's List student every semester, Rabe has also been named a NC State Scholar Athlete every semester as well as an ACC Academic Honor Roll member each year. Last year Rabe was selected to NC State's Top 10 Scholar Athlete List with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Action member, Rabe is also the volleyball team's Student Athlete Advisory Committee representative and takes part in numerous community service activities through NC State's ImPACK program.
Eddins leads the ACC and ranks 15th in NCAA for attack percentage. Starting every match and playing in every game the past two seasons, Eddins also ranks fourth in the ACC for blocks per game and eighth in kills per game this year. The team leader in kills, kills per game, total attacks, block assists, solo blocks and points, Eddins was named to the 2005 Wolfpack Classic All-Tournament Team and was also selected the tournament MVP. Eddins, who was elected co-captain of the squad, was also picked to the 2005 Magnolia Invitational All-Tournament Team. She led the ACC in blocks per game last year and was named team MVP. A Dean's List student, Eddins was also named NC State Scholar Athlete and chosen to the ACC Academic Honor Roll last year. A 2004 transfer from North Carolina A&T, Eddins led the Aggies in kills, attack percentage and blocks both years and was a two-time All-MEAC selection.
NC State, 7-17 overall and 1-15 in the ACC, plays this weekend at Georgia Tech on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga., and then at Clemson on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
To be eligible for academic all-district and academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
