NC State volleyball hosts North Carolina Tuesday night, 7:00 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack (6-6, 0-4 ACC) are coming off a pair of 3-0 conference losses this past weekend at Duke and at Wake Forest. The Tar Heels (8-6, 3-1 ACC) split with the same teams in five games each last weekend.
Tonight's match will be the first played on the Wolfpack's new volleyball court, located on the side of the women's basketball floor, which volleyball has been sharing in the past. Painted as a volleyball court and located in the bowled end of the coliseum, it should provide a more intimate atmosphere for the rabid NC State volleyball fans.
Starting senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins put together a stellar performance at Duke last Friday with 16 kills, a .438 attack pct. and five blocks in the 3-0 loss to the Blue Devils. She led the Wolfpack the next night at Wake Forest with nine kills, a .318 attack pct. and six blocks in the 3-0 loss to the Demon Deacons. Eddins, who led the ACC last year in blocks per game, is on top of the league stats again this year with 1.63 blocks per game. Picking up her offensive game, she also leads the ACC with her .444 attack percentage, which ranks in the top 10 of the NCAA.
Melissa Rabe had four service aces last weekend at Duke. She now leads the ACC with 0.59 service aces per game. In addition to her four aces against the Blue Devils, Rabe recorded her second double-double of the season with 34 assists and 12 digs to go with two kills and a block. The other junior on the club, setter Lyssa Ramirez, came off the bench at Wake Forest to lead the Wolfpack with 15 assists. Rabe and Ramirez have become quite a 1-2 punch for NC State, as Rabe leads the squad and ranks eighth in the ACC with 9.62 assists per game and Ramirez has taken the reins against Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Freshman outside hitter Aiwane Iboaya has shown rapid improvement throughout the first month of the season and she put together a 12-kill performance with a .292 attack pct. at Duke on Friday. She received the starting nod at Wake Forest and responded with five kills, four digs and a block.
Senior outside hitter Casey Wyatt has provided a lift to the Pack in every match this season. She came up huge at Duke with four kills, four digs and an ace. She received the starting call at Wake Forest the next night, where she hit .235 with five kills, six digs, another ace and a block.
