Raleigh, N.C. - Senior Aaron King of the NC State men's soccer team has been named the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News in helping the Pack to a 2-0 record last week. King helped the Pack (7-3-1, 2-1-1 ACC) to a tough 2-1 non-conference win over Charlotte on Wednesday, and then Friday night a 2-0 ACC win at Clemson.
King recorded his first multi-goal game of the season when he netted two against Charlotte, and just two days later he added another goal in the win at Clemson. He has now found the back of the net 11 times for the Pack in the first 11 games of the season, only failing to score in one contest. King has moved up to seventh place in the NC State record books with his 40 career goals.
This is the second straight week King has been named to College Soccer News' Team of the Week, and he was also named the ACC Player of the Week last week after helping the Pack down Elon and No. 3 Maryland.
The win over Clemson was the Pack's first on the Tiger's home field since 1994, and only the sixth in 23 tries at Clemson. The win was also the first ACC road win for NC State since 1997.
Also on that site, the Pack moved up in the top-30 poll, as NC State checks in at No. 21 this week. NC State had previously been ranked both No. 26 and No. 29 on different occasions. The ACC was well represented in the site's top-30 poll, Duke was 4th, Virginia was sixth, North Carolina was seventh, Maryland was 11th and Wake Forest was 16th. Two other teams NC State has already faced this season, No. 3 St. John's and No. 10 Old Dominion, continue to move up in the poll.
