NC State women's soccer hosts Clemson at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Wolfpack's final home match of the 2005 season also marks the honoring of seniors Lauren Georges, Lydia McBath and Kim Selz. NC State is coming off a 1-0 loss at No. 3 North Carolina on Thursday after a penalty kick in the 31st minute. The Pack is 6-10 overall and 2-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the Tigers, who have earned back-to-back upsets over 12th ranked Wake Forest and No. 6 Duke last week, enter the game with an overall record of 8-6-2 and 3-4-1 in ACC play.
Heading into the Pack's final home match, freshman Lindsay Vera has a team-high 13 points, coming from five goals and three assists. Junior Carol Tognetti posted five goals in the previous 16 matches. Junior Jessica O'Rourke inked a team-best four assists prior to Sunday's game. On defense, NC State has held its ACC opponents to just 11 goals, which is just over one per game. Senior goalkeeper Kim Selz continues to play well in between the posts. She has made 53 saves (6.63 saves per game) and allowed 11 goals in ACC games only. For the season the Wilmington, N.C. native has recorded 79 saves (5.27 saves per game) and allowed 14 goals. She has all three of NC State's shutouts this season, including the 1-0 double overtime shutout at Miami. Selz has posted eight or more saves in four matches this season, including a career high of 12 at Maryland.
In the last two weeks, Clemson has lost two overtime matches and then picked things up to earn two upsets. On Thursday, the Tigers shutout the sixth ranked Duke Blue Devils, 1-0 despite a large shot differential, with Duke leading 15 to 5. Goalkeeper Ashley Phillips made seven saves, while Courtney Foster scored the game-winner for her second goal of the season. Three-time All-ACC honoree Allison Graham leads Clemson with seven goals and seven assists. Four of her goals have been game winners. Prior to Thursday's upset over Duke, the Tigers knocked off No. 12 Wake Forest, 3-2 thanks to two goals and one assist from Graham on Oct. 16. Phillips has made 83 saves this season and allowed 15 goals.
The Pack will have just one remaining game following Sunday's match at home. NC State travels to No. 5 Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 29. The match will begin at 5 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
