Wolfpack to Host No. 10 Boston College on Sunday

NC State women's soccer hosts No. 10 Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Wolfpack enters the match with an overall record of 6-8-0 and is 2-4-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. The Eagles are 9-3-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play. The two teams have met twice before. The last meeting took place in 1990. Since then BC has joined the ACC after spending most of its time in the BIG EAST. The all-time series is tied 1-1 heading into the third all-time meeting.
The Wolfpack will look to pick up its first win over a ranked opponent this season when it hosts No. 10 Boston College on Sunday. The meeting with the Eagles marks the third match with a ranked opponent in the last five outings. The Pack has given up just two goals to those ranked opponents, one each to No. 8 Duke and No. 8 Wake Forest. After a two-match scoreless streak, NC State has battled back offensively to net three goals, two against Virginia Tech and one versus Maryland. Two Wolfpack players have five goals. Freshman Lindsay Vera and junior Carol Tognetti each have five nets, while sophomore Jessica O'Rourke has posted a team-high five assists. Vera leads the team in points with 13 with her five goals and three assists. In net, senior Kim Selz has started all six of the Pack's ACC contests. In that time she has made 38 saves and allowed nine goals. She made a career-high 12 saves in the overtime loss at Maryland and prior to that had posted eight saves twice (at Lehigh and vs. Virginia Tech).
The Eagles have lost three of their last four matches, which includes a 4-1 loss to No. 3 North Carolina on Thursday night, a 3-0 loss to No. 8 Florida State and 2-1 loss to top 20 ranked Wake Forest. The win was a 2-0 shutout of Miami on Oct. 6. BC is led by sophomore forward Kia McNeill, with three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Maddie Johnson also has a team-high three goals. In net for the Eagles is junior Arianna Criscione. She has started all 13 matches for BC. In that time she has allowed 10 goals, all against ACC opponents and made 44 total saves, 30 of which have been versus ACC teams. Boston College was 8-0-1 entering the ACC slate and opened the season with six-straight wins, all shutouts. In that span, BC posted an 11-0 goal differential.
