Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team returned to Reynolds this past weekend for another home meet, and the Pack didn't disappoint the home crowd with many top performances. NC State won the meet easily, and for the second straight home meet swept all the event titles. Assistant Coach Todd Henry tells us more in his weekly update.
Henry: What a difference a week makes! After a tough meet in Denver, the team rebounded with our best effort this year this past weekend. I am proud of all the girls and their tremendous attitudes. Last week was good in the gym and it showed in the competition. Thanks to all the fans that braved the very bad weather we had over the weekend. Raleigh is not known for getting snow or ice, and when we do the city really shuts down.
We have started a 9.7 Club at NC State. When a gymnast gets a 9.7 or higher on an event, the girl gets to throw a t-shirt to the crowd. It was a big success, with the fans really yelling for those Wolfpack t-shirts! Thank goodness we got to throw several out during the meet!!
The coaching staff is still trying to put a beam lineup on the floor that will be consistent. We had three kids do amazing routines and three that struggled. If we can solve that problem, we will reach our goals for the year!
Congrats to Crisann Calvo. After struggling her first year, she did two exhibitions over the weekend and was terrific! We will need all of that and more when NC State travels to do battle with North Carolina this weekend. Wish us luck!
Thanks to all of our behind the scene folks who help run our meets....Adina, Greg, Joyce, Brian, Jill, David and the crew and finally Meghan!
