Senior middle hitter Lori Ashton finished with 15 kills and three total blocks to lead Clemson past NC State, 3-0 in volleyball action at Jervey Gym on Friday night. The Wolfpack was defeated by the scores of 22-30, 17-30 and 24-30, and falls to 10-4 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The win moves Clemson to 8-4, 1-0 in the ACC.
In game one Clemson took a slight lead, 13-10, but then scored the next seven points on their way to victory. Much of the same came in the second contest as the Tigers won eight of the last 10 points for the win. Then, Clemson capitalized on a 22-15 lead in the final game to sweep the Pack.
Leading the way for NC State was senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe, who finished with 14 kills off a .294 attack percentage. Junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko racked up four block assists, while freshman setter Lauren Markowski dished out 25 assists.
In addition to her kills, Ashton also contributed three total blocks. Meanwhile, outside hitters Leslie Finn and Brittany Ross stepped up offensively for the Tigers, each recording 15 kills.
NC State returns to ACC action with a road match at Georgia Tech on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
