Soccer Hosts Iowa State on Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack soccer continues its two-game home stand this Friday, Sept. 3, with a 7 p.m., match against visiting Iowa State. NC State is coming off a 4-0 win over Howard and owns a 1-0-1 overall record. The Cyclones are 1-1-0 for the year and recently picked up a 2-0 victory over Drake on Aug. 29. The match will be played on the main field of SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C. This is the first meeting between the two teams. Over the last two games NC State has tallied a significant advantage in the shot category over its opponents. The Wolfpack has a 19.0 spg average compared to just 5.0 spg from its challengers. With the 4-0 win over the Bison on Tuesday, NC State will look to start a winning streak with a win over Iowa State. includes one goal. She owns a 91 percent on goal average, which means she doesn't miss the target much. Sophomore Carol Tognetti and senior Erin Griswold have also been pressuring the defense with their cuts into the box. Tognetti scored twice against Howard and has seven total shots. As a tri-captain, Griswold scored one goal and one assist against the Bison. She led NC State last season in points (26) and goals (10). Sophomore Megan Connors has been the starting goalkeeper for the Wolfpack. "Iowa State is a strong team," stated NC State head coach Laura Kerrigan. "They have back the majority of their leading players from last year's and will certainly be formidable opponent." As a member of the Big XII, Iowa State is coming off a 5-10-4 overall record and 2-6-2 slate in conference action in 2003. The Cyclones return eight starters and 14 letterwinners, including junior Kristina Baumann. The starting forward is leading Iowa State with six shots. She has one assist as well. Two freshmen in Beth Passman and Brittanie Waddell have been the goal scorers, each tallying one in the win over Drake. The youthful lineup continues with freshman Jo Haig taking duties in the net. She has started both games and tallied nine saves in 22 shots faced. After completing the second of two home games, the Wolfpack will travel to Elon on Sunday, Sept. 5. The match will begin at 2 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
