Women's soccer will play its second and final exhibition match of the preseason this Saturday, Aug. 21. The Wolfpack and Virginia Commonwealth kick off at 3 p.m., on the pitch of Method Road Soccer Stadium. The Pack is 2-0 versus VCU all-time. NC State is coming off a 1-1 tie against UNC Greensboro in the first exhibition. The Wolfpack's Anna Helenius scored the tying goal against the Spartans with eight minutes remaining in the second half. The senior from Finland had four assists and one goal last season as a midfielder. This year she has moved up to the forward spot for the Pack. Junior Kim Selz made three saves in the second half to keep UNCG at bay. Senior Erin Griswold had four shots, one on goal, in the match. The forward from Santa Monica, Calif., led the Wolfpack in points (26) and goals (10) in 2003. Virginia Commonwealth will have just one tune-up prior to its season opener at home versus George Washington on Friday, Aug. 27. The Rams bring back five starters after losing six from last season's roster. Those six players accounted for 11 of the team's 36 goals. The squad's leading scorer, senior forward Jen Parsons does return. She scored 14 nets and added three assists for a team-best 31 points. VCU also brings back junior midfielder Sandra Anger. She had four goals and five assists in 2003. The Rams are youthful in between the posts, having all three goalkeepers as freshmen. Jackie Picard is a redshirt-freshman and both Emily Niman and Lauren Hardison are true freshmen. VCU went 10-6-4 overall and 5-1-3 for a second place spot in the Colonial Athletic Association. NC State begins its 2004 regular season slate with a game on the road at Campbell, Friday, Aug. 27. Kick-off for that game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Buies Creek, N.C. --PACK--
