Lewton Wins British Open Regional Qualifying Round

Stephen Lewton, a rising junior on the NC State men's golf team, shot a four-under-par 68 to lead a field of 1,600 players at the July 5 Regional Qualifying Round for the British Open at Orsett Golf Club in Essex, England. Lewton had six birdies on the day, shooting four-under on the front nine.
A native of Milton Keyes, England, Lewton qualified for the Local Final Qualifier at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club July 10-11. There he will be one of 96 players looking to earn one of three spots into the British Open July 15-18 at Royal Troon.
Meanwhile, Jerry Richardson, a rising sophomore on the team, tied for 12th at the Dogwood Invitational July 2 at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. Finishing five-under-par, Richardson carded a pair of 68s in the last two rounds. Richardson, who hails from Burlington, N.C., birdied six holes in each of the last two rounds.
Jace Strandberg tied for 27th at the North Carolina Amateur Championship June 20 at the Croasdaile Country Club in Durham, N.C. The Greensboro, N.C., native who will be a redshirt-freshman in the fall, fired 74-73-72-75.
Banks Wood is playing in the Carolinas Amateur Championship July 7-11 at the Country Club of North Carolina, Dogwood Course in Pinehurst, N.C.
