RALEIGH, N.C. -
What was the first thing you did after the spring semester finished?
Megan Connors: Well, after I parted ways with NC State I went home to visit my family in New Jersey. I took some time off of training and then went to work using a workout our coaches and strength coach prepared for us. I was up there until July 12. I also babysat a lot to earn some extra cash.
Carol Tognetti: The first thing I did was drive to Houston, Texas to see my family. My parents were the only people I didn't get to see and that is because they were in Florida at the time. I did get to see my nephew's first soccer game. He's a little stud. It was a nice mini-reunion that lasted about a week.
Did you play any soccer during the break?
Megan Connors: I played soccer with PDA (Players Development Academy).
Carol Tognetti: I trained with CASL's, U-19 Spartan girl's league team. through the end of June and we ended up going to the regionals in Austin, Texas. This time I flew with the team however instead of driving back to Texas.
Sounds like you drove a lot, did you go anywhere else?
Carol Tognetti: As a matter of fact I drove to New Jersey to surprise Megan. She had no idea I was coming and went into shock when she opened the door and saw me standing there.
Did any of your teammates come to visit?
Megan Connors: Carol (Tognetti) came up for two days and went to Six Flags and also I saw Mandela (Schumacher-Hodge) because her sister was playing in the PDA Tournament. Coach Kerrigan also came by to visit.
Other than Six Flags did you do anything else that was fun?
Megan Connors: I went to the beach a lot and to "The City", which for me is New York City. I wanted to see a play, but didn't get to. My friends and I just went shopping and out to dinner.
Carol Tognetti: I drove again to Missouri to visit my best friend Roxanne. We went to Lake Table Rock. It was a lot of fun. We went wall rock climbing and rode jet skis. We also took a trip to Nashville to see the USA National team play Canada.
What did you miss about NC State?
Megan Connors:
I missed my friends here, especially some of my teammates, Carol, Karla, Mandela and Brittany. And of course Lindsay Cobb, my goalkeeper coach. And I'm not just saying that.
Carol Tognetti: I missed playing with my team.
What are you looking forward to this season?
Megan Connors: I am definitely looking forward to getting an NCAA bid. I know this team is willing to work hard towards that and I think we are going to have a really good year. I am not however looking forward to the gauntlet. Those who know what that is, know what I mean.
Carol Tognetti: I am looking forward to winning and having a lot of fun playing soccer, getting more focused on academics. It's good not to be a freshman anymore, to have a year of experience.
