Ballerano and Mountcastle fire 69s at Trans Amateur

Lorraine Ballerano and Nancy Mountcastle, members of the NC State women's golf team, both fired 69s in the first qualifying round of the Women's Trans National Amateur Championship, Monday at Glenmore Country Club in Keswick, Va., to lead the field.
Ballerano, a rising junior from Myrtle Beach, S.C., shot a 74 in the second qualifying round and Mountcastle, a rising sophomore from Durham, N.C., carded a 75 in the second round. Both made the cut for match play, along with current teammates Molly Birmingham (77-75=152), Colby Cobb (76-76=152) and former teammate Briana Vega (75-72=147).
Match play began Wednesday and the tournament concludes Saturday, July 17. Results are available at www.womenstrans.com
Ashlee Dean, who will be a senior on the squad this year, shot a 73 in a qualifier at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. last weekend to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be played Aug. 9-15 at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa.
