After being selected to the final 22-man roster of the U.S. National Team, NC State reliever Joey Devine continued his excellent pitching Tuesday night in Team USA's 16-6 thrashing of Canada. Devine, a two-time All-ACC selection, struck out five men in 1 and 2/3 innings of work in an exhibition tilt played in Myrtle Beach. Since donning the Red, White&Blue, the right-hander has struck out nine men in just 3 and 2/3 innings without allowing a base hit.
Coming off its six-game sweep over the Canada, the U.S. National Team will now travel to Japan for a five-game series against the Japanese All-Stars.
The club will return to the United States for a four-game exhibition series against Chinese Taipei at Durham Athletic Park (July 15, 16, 17, 18) before traveling to Taiwan for the World University Games July 25 through August 1.
