The 2003-2004 school year has been one of excitement and accomplishment for NC State Athletics, both on the playing field and in the classroom. Wednesday, April 28 was a night of celebration for the Wolfpack's student-athletes as they gathered at the Brownstone Hotel in Raleigh for the annual Caterpillar Scholar Athlete Banquet.
The event honors the many men and women at NC State who compile a 3.0 total grade point average. In keeping with tradition, NC State's student-athletes came through again, with 201 student-athletes achieving the goal during the Spring semester of 2003. Of those, 112 were also named to the NC State Dean's List. In the Fall semester of 2003, some 237 student-athletes posted a 3.0 average or better, with 118 making the Dean's List. The Academic Support Program for Student Athletes at NC State is under the direction of Phil Moses.
" Once again, we are very proud to honor our Caterpillar Scholar Athletes. The accomplishments of our scholar athletes are truly amazing. From the outstanding Top Ten to the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship winners, we boast the best of the best," said Moses. He added, " The ASPSA also is very proud to be honoring three university employees as "Friends of ASPSA". Darnell Johnson from the Psychology Department, Dr. Barbara Kirby from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and our very own Chancellor, Dr. Marye Anne Fox. The support and timeless energy and encouragement that we have received from these three individuals speak volumes for the commitment of the University to overall success of our student-athletes and students in general."
The program also featured remarks from NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and Athletic Director Lee Fowler. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Top Ten Scholar Athletes at NC State.

This was the third straight year that Caterpillar has sponsored the Scholar Athlete Program. And, the event continues to get bigger and better each year. Just like Caterpillar in the business world, and NC State's student-athletes in their athletic and academic endeavors.
